MODELY THIBAUD

Originally from Mauritius, Modely Thibaud (born in 1988) now divides his life and work between Paris and Cannes. From an early age, his talent for drawing was evident. In primary school, a teacher, impressed by his artwork, predicted in front of the whole class that he would become a painter. Encouraged by his grandfather, who gifted him a set of oil paints, an easel, and his first canvases, Modely discovered the world of painting with fascination. He explored its possibilities and became captivated by its texture and scent.

However, driven by sporting interests and the influences of adolescence, he temporarily put aside his creative talents. At the age of 16, watching the film Basquiat by Julian Schnabel was a turning point for him. Inspired, he returned to painting, initially working with watercolor before turning to oil painting. The desire to create was rekindled, and he found a deep pleasure in the process, guided by his instincts and inspirations.

In recent years, Modely has explored new mediums, including ceramics, silk, and glass. Upon Request presents a curated selection of hand-crafted ceramic furniture created between Cannes, Biot, and Vallauris on the French Riviera.
